10 月读书, 我选了本一直想读的 Shark's Fin and Sichuan Pepper,中文名《鱼翅与花椒》。一直想找一本讲中国的英文原版书,就想到 Fuchsia Dunlop 的这本 Shark's Fin and Sichuan Pepper: A sweet-sour memoir of eating in China,从饮食出发看文化顺便学英语。作者邓扶霞(Fuchsia Dunlop)应该是最了解中国食物的西方美食作家。妈妈是英语老师,桃李满世界,她也因此从小就喜欢各国美食。1994 年,她从剑桥大学毕业,机缘巧合来中国在四川大学学少数民族历史。留学期间她无心发现四川美食激起了她的厨子梦,她说:“Students who get good grades at school are not encouraged to run away and work in restaurants. I remember one middle-school teacher laughing at me, incredulous, when I told him of my ambition. So I carried on passing exams, working hard and doing what was expected of me. It was in China, thousands of miles away from home and almost completely cut off from my past, that I was able to do what I really wanted. Finally, I was able to admit to myself that I was no socio-economic analyst, not even really a journalist, but a cook. It was in the kitchen, chopping vegetables, mixing a dough in my hands or seasoning a soup, that I felt most completely myself. ”书的内容是一位英国留学生对中国文化的探索,也有她对文化的观察反思。语言准确、幽默,烟火气十足,我们能从另一个视角看自己的文化,同时学习如何向外国友人介绍我们习以为常的事物。下面这段就是在介绍四大菜系的特点,涨知识顺便学英语:全书除去前言后序共 17 章,我们 9 月 13 日开始阅读,每天读完一章,具体安排如下:一如既往,英文原版书阅读训练营的大原则是「读书,顺便学英文」。
形式上简单粗暴:
- 自己阅读当天阅读章节,有问题在群里提出;
- 我每天发一篇当天的阅读笔记;
